The Cardiac Intermediate Unit (CIU) is a step-down unit within
the Critical Care Department. Twenty-four hour care is provided
to adults with acute cardiac and renal illness, as well as
for those having undergone renal transplantation. The CIU
beds are equipped to monitor heart rate and hemodynamic pressures.
The centrally located communication center is equipped with
an arrhythmia monitoring and trending system. Care/Case Management
form the framework for care delivery. Clinical pathways are
utilized for persons admitted with a diagnosis of myocardial
infarction, unstable angina, congestive heart failure (CHF),
and renal transplantation.
