Why Do I Have to Wait?

The length of wait depends on the number of people who are critically ill or injured. You will be seen as soon as there is an available room to meet your particular need. Sometimes, specialized rooms are needed and you may wait for another patient to be finished in that room.

While you are in the Emergency Department, you may wait for other reasons such as:

  • Patients admitted to the ED who have arrived by ambulance
  • X-rays to be taken and/or X-rays to be read by the radiologist
  • Treatments to be given
  • Lab tests to be done and/or lab results to be available
  • A specialist to be contacted
  • Seeing how you respond to initial treatment

While we know it is hard to wait, the benefit to you are the results we will provide at the end of your visit. If you are a patient waiting to be seen, please do not eat or drink anything unless given permission by the emergency staff.
