Why a Transplant?

Kidney transplant provides many patients with increased freedom and an improved quality of life. A well functioning kidney is much more effective at filtering waste products and balancing water and minerals than either type of dialysis. A transplanted kidney that is doing a good job also results in a more normal blood count, which corrects anemia and helps increase energy levels. Time-consuming dialysis treatments are no longer needed after a recipient receives a transplant that works well.

After your transplant you will be able to return to a more normal, active life. However, you will be responsible for the lifetime management of your new kidney. This includes making clinic visits, taking medicines and making daily choices that will be the best for you and your new kidney.
