New Director of Research & Innovation

It is our pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Susan Hoppough, PhD, RN to the position of Interim Director Research & Innovation. As many of you are aware, Susan has served Saint Mary’s in the role of Director Cancer Control for the past three years, and has been actively engaged at the local, state, and national level in cancer prevention, education, and research.

A graduate of the Butterworth School of Nursing, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at Grand Valley State, a Master of Science in Nursing, Gerontology and a PhD at Michigan State University. Susan is an active participant on the Michigan Cancer Consortium Board of Directors and the West Michigan Science and Technology Initiative Advisory Board. She currently represents Saint Mary’s Health Care on the Biotechnology Commercialization Project, which represents a community collaborative for research and innovation, positioning the members for access to dollars within the biotech corridor in Michigan and advocating for our position in the community as part of the "Smart Zone."

In recent years, Susan has secured many grants related to creating and improving community and culturally based educational programs, and this year was awarded a two-year HRET (Health Research & Education Trust in Partnership with AHA) Cultural Competence Leadership Fellowship.

We are excited that Susan has agreed to take on this role, in which she will continue to support excellent patient care at Saint Mary’s through ongoing research. Please join us in congratulating her.
