Advantage Health Physicians Rank Among the Best and Receive
2003 Governor’s Award of Excellence
Grand Rapids, MI, February 13, 2004 –57 Advantage Health
physicians representing seventeen office sites have received
Michigan Peer Review Organization’s (MPRO) most prestigious
award, the 2003 Governor’s Award of Excellence for Improving
Preventive Care in the Ambulatory Care Setting. This is more
physicians than any other primary care organization in west
Michigan.
This accolade honors physicians’ offices statewide
that are performing quality initiatives to improve patient
care. The Governor’s Award acknowledges offices in Michigan
that are actively engaged in improving care in the following
areas for Medicare beneficiaries:
- Mammography screening for breast cancer
- Screenings to prevent diabetes complications
- Increased immunizations for flu and pneumococcal pneumonia
In an effort to increase preventive health screenings, Michigan
Governor Jennifer Granholm and MPRO challenged physicians’
offices to achieve the improvement award based on select criteria.
“By teaming up with the physicians’ offices,
we will be able to make a healthy impact on not only Michigan’s
senior populations, but all of Michigan’s residents,”
said Debra L. Moss, MD, MBA, president and chief executive
officer, MPRO, “It’s all about improving the quality
of health care, and more importantly, saving lives,”
stressed Dr. Moss.
“Advantage Health is committed to quality patient care
and we are very proud to have 57 physicians recognized for
this distinguished award,” stated David Blair, MD Not
only has Advantage Health Physicians been recognized by the
Governor for excellence including Best Practice in Diabetes,
Priority Health has also recognized Advantage Health for superior
performance managing diabetes patients. “Within Priority
Health's provider network, Advantage Health Physicians are
consistently among the top performing groups in diabetes care,"
said Frank Marre', DO, associate vice president of clinical
quality improvement for Priority Health.
MPRO is designated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
(CMS), as Michigan’s Quality Improvement Organization,
for the state’s 1.4 million Medicare beneficiaries.
MPRO works closely with physicians’ offices, hospitals,
nursing homes, home health agencies, and managed care plans,
to improve the quality of health in Michigan.
