This January, Hope Has a
New Home
The Lacks Cancer Center at Saint Mary’s
In
January, 2005, Saint Mary’s will help continue the transformation of cancer
care in West Michigan with the official opening of The Lacks Cancer Center at
Saint
Mary’s.
Located at the corner of Cherry and Lafayette Streets in the Heritage Hill
district of Grand Rapids, this beautiful state-of-the-art center will be a healing
environment like no other, providing exceptional service to our patients and their
families. It will be the only dedicated comprehensive cancer hospital in West
Michigan.
The Lacks Cancer Center at Saint Mary’s is the realization of a unique
vision. Built around our unique model of holistic care, The Lacks Cancer Center
provides a dynamic home for healing of the mind, body and spirit.
Sun-filled hallways, guest-friendly suites and textures of wood and stone provide
a peaceful environment for reflection. Physical features including a rooftop garden,
interfaith chapel, Warren Reynolds Library, retail boutique, coffee shop and a
pleasing aesthetic sensibility helps build connections to those points of strength
and meaning that are essential to healing: faith, friends and family.
The Lacks Cancer Center is the result of unprecedented generosity. Donors,
employees, corporations, foundations and other funding partners have joined forces
to provide more than $42 million in philanthropic support for this vital center.
The 180,000-square-foot, five-story Lacks Cancer Center will stand as a perpetual
reminder of the commitment of this community to the best in cancer treatment and
their enthusiasm for our model of care.
The Lacks Cancer Center represents a new level of convenience and comfort for
patients. It will provide a beautiful environment for healing; a welcoming atmosphere
for caregivers who require a home-away-from-home for weeks or months; and a strategic
design that places a broad range of services, technologies and treatment resources
under one roof.
Services that were once scattered around the community will be in one place
– leading to convenience for you, and greater opportunities for collaboration
among physicians and specialists.
