Saint Mary’s Health Care and Advantage Health SW Outpatient
Campus
FACT SHEET
- After more than a year of planning, Saint Mary’s
Health Care and a group of specialty and primary care physicians
have announced plans to build an outpatient campus in the
fast-growing area of southwest Grand Rapids.
- The central feature of the campus would be a 91,000-square-feet,
two-story building that will be located on the northeast
corner of Byron Center Avenue and 64th Street, directly adjacent
to M-6 on about 22 acres of land.
- Based on patient input, the team is proposing to
offer physician offices, urgent care services, diagnostic
imaging, outpatient surgery, clinical labs, physical rehabilitation,
a pharmacy and healthy lifestyle programs at the site. The
grounds will feature fitness trails and landscaped gardens.
- There will be no inpatient beds on the campus.
- There will be at least three large meeting rooms
that y be used at times for community needs.
- There will be café on site but will not
be called a restaurant. This will serve patients, families
and employees.
- There will be a walking trail around the facility
that would be open to the public to use.
- About 20 percent of Saint Mary’s patients
reside in southwest Grand Rapids; the network is responding
to demand for more accessible health care.
- If approved, Saint Mary’s plans to break
ground in June 2005 and complete construction by December
2006.
- Said Saint Mary’s President and CEO Philip
H. McCorkle, Jr.: “Our patients tell us they want much
more convenient access to comprehensive, quality care with
services closer to their homes and in a comfortable environment.
Together with our physician partners, we have designed an
innovative health care facility that will cater to the patient.
Much like The Lacks Cancer Center at Saint Mary’s,
which opens in December, this patient-centered facility will
bring a variety of services together under one roof. We look
forward to working with Byron Township officials and residents
to build the kind of health care campus that will best meet
the needs of this area.”
- Said Advantage Health President and CEO David Blair,
M.D.: “More than 90 percent of our patients’ needs
do not require a hospital stay. This collaborative approach
with specialists and Saint Mary’s to bring the appropriate
services closer to patients’ homes will significantly
improve the health care experience.”
- The Byron Township planning consultant recommended
approval of the project, stating it is “consistent
with the master plan, is less intense than a conventional,
commercial use and establishes a positive use in the area.”
- Like The Lacks Cancer Center, the building and
site will be designed to meet the requirements for Leadership
in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
