Saint Mary’s promises “Something More”
as it unveils new logo, new look and updated name during festivities
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., SEPT. 8, 2004 – Today, Saint Mary’s
President and CEO Philip H. McCorkle, Jr. showed off the new
look, logo and name of Saint Mary’s – changes
that reflect its bold commitment to current and future excellence.
“Today, we are here to announce to the community that
we have always been the hospital with Something More,”
McCorkle said during the unveiling, which coincided with the
hospital’s annual employee picnic. “Anyone who
walks through our doors receives so much more than they ever
expected. When people come to Saint Mary’s, they get
leading edge practices and a caring experience. Patients will
never have to choose between the ability to cure and the capacity
to care.”
Saint Mary’s will officially be known by its updated
full name, Saint Mary’s Health Care, along with the
shortened version, Saint Mary’s. The hospital will no
longer use “Saint Mary’s Mercy Medical Center,”
as the name does not reflect Saint Mary’s growth into
a multi-faceted collection of health care centers throughout
West Michigan.
The announcement marked the official launch of a major advertising
and marketing initiative that will use broadcast, print, online
and outdoor mediums to convey the Saint Mary’s story
to all of West Michigan. That story reflects Saint Mary’s
history of delivering an unexpected combination of desired
services and experiences. Saint Mary’s is unique in
its two-pronged approach, placing equal emphasis on both leading
edge practices (the latest technology and most innovative
medicine) and a compassionate, caring experience.
“People expect the latest technology and most advanced
care from a premier health care network, but we have traditionally
been pretty quiet about how extraordinary our physicians,
nurses, staff and services are at Saint Mary’s,”
said Deb Stiemann, Saint Mary’s Vice President of Strategic
Advancement. “This effort will help people learn what
a lot of our patients – past and present – already
know: that Saint Mary’s is unique within the local medical
community, offering a real, tangible and unexpected difference.”
For more than 100 years, Saint Mary’s has grown by
embracing vanguard medical procedures and advances. Saint
Mary’s boasts state-of-the-art treatment centers for
cancer, Parkinson’s disease and kidney transplantation.
In coming years, Saint Mary’s will open its doors to
several major new facilities, including the much-anticipated
Lacks Cancer Center, which opens in December 2004.
Saint Mary’s is a member of Trinity Health, the country’s
fifth largest Catholic healthcare system. Saint Mary’s
is a 324-bed hospital employing over 2500 employees with net
revenue of $289 million for fiscal year 2003. Saint Mary’s
owns two health clubs, four health centers and 13 Advantage
Health Physician offices, with more then 80 providers in Family
Practice, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology. In
addition, Saint Mary’s will be opening the Lacks Cancer
Center in December 2004, west Michigan’s only dedicated
cancer hospital. For more information about Saint Mary’s,
